EcoGastronomy College Intern Joins HeartBeet Farms

We were so excited to welcome our new college intern to the HeartBeet Farms team on Sunday!  Taylor Zupo was born and raised in Setauket, NY.  She is attending the University of New Hampshire with a dual major in EcoGastronomy.

WHAT IS ECOGASTRONOMY?

EcoGastronomy is a unique food studies program offered by the University of New Hampshire for students interested in nutrition and sustainabile food production. The University of New Hampshire’s EcoGastronomy food studies program is the first of its kind in the nation.  The program is part of the University of New Hampshire’s Food & Society Initiative, which promotes studies of local food procurement, sustainable agriculture and food system challenges.

“EcoGastronomy integrates UNH strengths in sustainable agriculture, hospitality management, and nutrition… offering a unique academic program emphasizing the interdisciplinary, international, and experiential knowledge that connects all three fields.  The EcoGastronomy Dual Major is a collaboration with the University of New Hampshire’s College of Life Sciences and Agriculture, Peter T. Paul College of Business and Economics, and the Sustainability Institute.”

The dual major helps to set students apart from other professionals with the incorporation of sustainable practices. The EcoGastronomy program connects interdisciplinary, international and experiential knowledge, including time on farms, in kitchens and labs, plus a study abroad experience at the University of Gastronomic Sciences in Italy.

In addition to her focus on EcoGastronomy, Taylor enjoys hiking and is a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority.

Taylor’s younger sister is a Girl Scout who helped paint the Hobbs Farm barn a few years ago.  Taylor’s mom saw the recent promotions for HeartBeet Farms and shared them with Taylor, who connected with us for a summer internship while home from college.

We are very excited to have Taylor on our team this summer.  On her first day, she toured the farm, helped us weed a 100 foot row, added amendments, and planted an entire 100+ foot row of bush beans!   We are confident that Taylor will gain a wealth of experience at HeartBeet Farms that can be integrated into her EcoGastronomy classroom study.

Welcome Taylor!
