The Agri-Tourist Podcast, my journey back to agriculture! Join me to learn from agritourism farmers & entrepreneurs & help me build my farm strategy!

Hey, it’s Jen, you’re Agri-Tourist Podcast Hos
Hey, it’s Jen, you’re Agri-Tourist Podcast Host. I am always here to support the people I interview.

So, if you are planning on visiting the Berkshires this summer and fall season, Dori Scofield, owner of Berkshire Farm Sanctuary, and I have partnered up to help her create an agri-destination at her sanctuary.

We are starting small with 5 exciting chocolate cocktail hours for all of you chocolate lovers out there!! You’ll start with a chocolate mocktail, indulge in some delicious charcuterie (plant-based of course!). Then you’ll learn how real chocolate is made from these beautiful and colorful cacao pods.

Savor the tastes of real chocolate from around the world and depart the farm house will some of your favorite chocolate bars in hand! Proceeds support all of Dori’s amazing rescued animals at the Sanctuary - and each animal has a story to be told.

Remember, there are only 5 dates starting Saturday, July 5th and once they’re booked, that’s it! So visit Berkshirefarmsanctuary.org or heartbeetfarms.com to register now! (Link in bio)

I was asked to help out a group of friends with a new podcast - Marisa, the friend who interviews me, was one of those friends. They call themselves ‘terrestrial’ radio people as they all were involved with various radio shows back in the day - you can tell by their great voices! I sat down with them a few months ago and downloaded my thoughts on how to get started, realizing how much I had learned with a year’s worth of podcast episodes under my belt! I felt very complimented to have been asked to do this.

Well, they just launched their first episode and asked me to come down to the library studio during their recording for support - just in case!! I didn’t know they were going to recruit me as their first guest - LOL! I had such a fun experience. They are off to an amazing start so please give them a listen. You can find them on all the big podcast platforms - Spotify, Apple, IHeartRadio, etc.. under the name Yakety Yak; Let’s Talk About That! I will add the Apple Podcasts link to my bio!

Give them a listen! And feel free to also give them a review after you listen. Congrats Mike, Marisa and Glenn!!! You did it!

Jim Sanders, an environmentalist & farmer, is the
Jim Sanders, an environmentalist & farmer, is the owner of Wildflower Lane Farm in North Carolina. Jim has some great stories about how he came into farming and his fun and not so fun experiences with trying to build a farming business. All along, Jim knew and was reminded by some friends that there had to be a better way.

Jim decided to take another approach to feeding local people. Jim came up with an idea that would enable him to do what he loved – growing food for people – while removing it from the business cycle that was proving to be unsatisfying. He would do this by shifting non profit funds used to pay for fresh produce from wholesalers and retailers to local farmers who would grow for them.

He walked into the office of a local non profit called Table, explained his concept, and asked them to try it out with him. The Executive Director of TABLE, who you will hear from directly in an upcoming episode, after a little due diligence, was open to Jim’s idea, shifted some funds his way, and took the leap of faith. And every year since, TABLE has shifted more funds to growing with local farmers vs. purchasing produce, demonstrating the strength and impact of Jim’s concept.

Jim’s idea has had a direct impact on food security in NC and beyond. This is also a testament that existing local organizations can and should collaborate and join forces, shift funds to local sourcing, and ultimately increase access to nutritious food for everyone.

So this is my 53rd episode, the 1st episode launching Season 2 of the Agri-Tourist Podcast. This episode is part 2 of my interview with Marisa about coming full circle.

I have learned so much during the course of this year…and not just about farming and agriculture. I learned so much about life, about love, about passion and dedication, trusting the journey, making every day count, and about taking that leap of faith.

And I learned all of this from over 50 amazing people from all over the world. So this episode along with Part 1, #52, are dedicated to the amazing, inspirational and passionate individuals who allowed me into their lives, their businesses and to become a little part of their journey. Thank you for all you do!

Join my trusted and dear friend Marisa and I as we continue to explore the last year together and venture into year 2!
